Engineered Symmetrical seals
Symmetrical seals are parts that are balanced in shape and can be interchanged for both piston and rod use which makes them useful for emergency retrofit situations where there is a lack of information about the application and an urgent seal is required.
The back-heel of the seal sits square in the centre of the seal groove on the non-pressure side and only has contact across the sealing lips, this makes the design unstable and it can sometimes roll and tilt in the groove under pressure creating possible leak-paths and seal damage (chevron packing sets are not susceptible to this).
Other than for chevron packing sets and emergency situations, we would always recommend that you utilise one of our asymmetrical rod or piston seals as these have certain design attributes that provide increased stability, sealing performance and a reduction in friction.
IMPORTANT - Please Note: The data shown below are maximum values and operating ranges and cannot be used at the same time.
For example: The maximum operating speed will depend on material type chosen, working pressure, application temperature and clearance gap values. The temperature range shown is also dependent on choice of material and media to be sealed.

Summary

KB21 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe KB21 profile is a symmetrical sharp-lipped O-Ring energised U-Cup seal and is commonly used in the hydraulic repair market as it can function in both rod and piston applications.
The O-Ring energiser in this seal provides further sealing force across the sealing lips to ensure leak free performance even at low or zero pressure.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

KB21Q Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe KB21Q is a modification of our standard KB21 profile and has been designed to help provide a more positive sealing effect directly to the main seal lips.
The X-Ring energiser used in this seal is less susceptible to being blown out from the energiser cavity as can sometimes happen when pressure bypasses and becomes lodged behind the more common O-Ring energiser .

KB22 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sKB22 is a pressure activated packing set that comprises of a main U-ring sealing element and a male pressure/support ring.
The main U-Ring sealing element is designed to provide initial sealing force across the sealing faces upon installation. Sealing force is increased under system pressure through the pressure/support ring being forced into the U-shaped cavity, this spreads the sealing lips further to add increased seal contact force.
Although the KB22 is an old design of seal and the use of a more advanced sealing solution is recommended, it is still favoured by users of older hydraulic equipment commonly used in the steel industry.

KB22A Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sKB22A is a packing set that comprises of a main U-ring sealing element and a male pressure/support ring.
The main U-Ring sealing element is designed to provide initial sealing force across the sealing faces upon installation. Sealing force is increased under system pressure through the pressure/support ring being forced into the U-shaped cavity, this spreads the sealing lips further to add increased seal contact force.
The KB22A can also be used in an adjustable gland/housing and compressing the seal slightly in its groove. Over compression of the seal however will result in increased seal wear which in-turn decreases seal life. If the user wishes to utilise the compression method, we suggest using one of our lubricated polyurethane materials to help reduce frictional generated heat damage to the seal.

KB28 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sProfile KB28 is a single acting /uni-directional U-Cup seal.
Its symmetrical lip design offers the choice of both piston or rod use and the positive shaped lip provides excellent fluid film removal from the mating metal component while providing minimal friction resistance.
Commonly used on both pneumatic and hydraulic actuators it is a good choice for applications where both positive sealing and low friction are required.
KB28 is commonly specified in one of our lubricated PU materials although it is available in many of our high-performance materials and is available for rapid delivery.

SB06 Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB06 profile is a symmetrical lipped seal and is commonly used in the repair market as it can function in both rod and piston applications.
Although popular, the SB06 is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application, this is because the profile is centralised to the seal groove and is susceptible to tilting and/or rolling in its groove when under pressure causing the back-heel of the seal to come into contact with the dynamic surface causing increased friction.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB06A Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB06A profile is a modification of the more standard SB06 seal. It too is a symmetrical lipped seal and is commonly used in the repair markets as it can function in both rod and piston application, however it has improved groove geometry to allow it to be used in applications that require a greater degree of deflection over the sealing lips. This improved geometry is suitable for applications that may see large instances of misalignment between the mating hardware faces or where inaccurate housing dimensions may be in place.
Like its sister profile, the SB06A is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application, this is because the profile is centralised to the seal groove and is susceptible to tilting and/or rolling in its groove when under pressure causing the back-heel of the seal to come into contact with the dynamic surface causing increased friction.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB07 Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB07 profile is a symmetrical lipped O-Ring energised U-Cup seal and is commonly used in the hydraulic repair market as it can function in both rod and piston applications.
The O-Ring energiser in this seal provides further sealing force across the sealing lips to ensure leak free performance even at low or zero pressure. Although a popular choice, the SB07 is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB07A Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB07A profile is a symmetrical lipped energised U-Cup seal that provides both primary and secondary sealing functions.
The primary elastomeric sealing element provides excellent dry rod sealing performance and is commonly used in both safety and environmentally critical applications where rod seal leakage could be catastrophic.
The main U-Cup seal body is produced from one of our polyurethane materials and provides a secondary sealing lip for redundant sealing. This secondary lip also helps trap initial lubrication between both sealing lips to help reduce the frictional output under dynamic movement.

SB07Q Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB07Q is a modification of our standard SB07 profile and has been designed to help provide a more positive sealing effect directly to the main seal lips.
The X-Ring energiser used in this seal is less susceptible to being blown out from the energiser cavity as can sometimes happen when pressure bypasses and becomes lodged behind the more common O-Ring energiser .
the SB07Q like its sister seal is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application.

XB54 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe XB54 profile is a symmetrical lipped solid seal that can function in both rod and piston applications and is normally only used in the hydraulic repair market where a seal with extreme compression is required to prevent leakage.
This seal is not recommended for new applications due to the increased risk of compression set due to the geometry and material combinations. It should only be used in extreme situations where no other seal is satisfactory and leak tightness must be achieved above all else.
